The challenge
People being scammed are often frightened and rushed. Most advice online covers one country in one language, and a wrong or outdated helpline number means no help when it matters most.
I researched, wrote, designed and built Scam Literacy on my own in about two weeks, and I run it: a free website about scams that use AI, such as romance scams, fake investments, cloned voices and online blackmail.
How it works for visitors
The right numbers for where you are
The site works out which country the visitor is in and shows that country’s helplines, whatever language they’re reading. Each list names its country, with a button to change it.
Mistakes are stopped before they go live
Every fact links to its source, and each helpline shows when it was last checked. The site won’t publish if a translation is missing or a phone number was changed by mistake during translation.
Built for people under stress
It uses short sentences, a typeface designed for people with poor eyesight, and a spam check with no picture puzzles to solve. I tested it on screens from small phones to desktops, in all six languages.

Privacy
Showing local numbers means knowing the visitor’s country. I used only the country code the web host already has, so nobody is tracked and nothing is stored.
